The kids spent
the morning drawing their baby sister. They watched her closely and I pointed
out details. They noticed, then began to see intricacies on their own and
took great pride in spotting the stitching on her collar and putting it
in their drawings. They noticed pupils and irises, ear structure and neckline.
Yet, each child's creation was unique and wonderful to his or her own personal
way of seeing Sophia. And isn't that what we want to foster in our children?
the ability to see life, take it all in, notice the details, process
it, and come up with their own unique way of responding to it and communicating
it back to others. Art making is a delightfully creative way to teach our
children how to do just that, and it's wonderfully fun too!
